Promenade Bistro
150 Boul Provencher Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada R2H0G3 (204) 233-7030 free call [URL] Gojko Bodiroga, former executive chef at Dubrovnik, has created his own little Promenade Bistro. Bodiroga's new setting may not be luxurious, but the fresh ingredients and masterful cooking rival the food served in many of the city's posher places. Add Tag |

I had the opportunity to check out Promenade Bistro in St. Boniface last night. Given the plain decor, it was a pleasant surprise. The ambiance really needs work. It's a great location with a terrific view of the bridge and the downtown Winnipeg skyline. But, it is obvious that there was a limited budget for interior design. Something really has to be done about the signage and the entrance - it looks like either a donut shop or a diner - before you get to the dining room. The good news is that the food was quite good and the prices are terrific. The lobster bisque was excellent (well under $10... I think $7.95). The filet mignon was very good (just $19.95!). But, the creme brulee was just average. I hope they can stay in business with such low prices. I'd rather they charge more for the food and spend the increased margins on new furniture, etc. |
